The name of dry carbon fibre comes from its manufacturing process. Dry carbon fibre is formed by using a "pre-impregnated" or impregnated piece of carbon material. This piece of carbon is first placed in a mould and then placed in a sealed autoclave to cure properly. This method produces the least amount of waste and forms a lighter version of the carbon than the "wet" method. The autoclave vacuuming process in the production of dry carbon means fewer pinholes and virtually no air pockets in the carbon.
